Rebate Information

Atchison-Holt offers a residential appliance and heating rebate program that encourages residential members to purchase qualifying Energy Star equipment. Items available in the program include electric water heaters, energy star heat pump water heaters, room air conditioning units, ground source heat pumps mini-split heat pumps and dual fuel heat pumps. Please contact the cooperative if you have any questions regarding this program.

The rebates are as follows:

Air Source Heat Pump                                            

Rebate amount is $150 per ton

Eligible Members

Residential and commercial members in good standing with the cooperative are eligible for rebates. The structure in which the member resides must be a permanent structure on a permanent foundation on the land owned by the member. Rebates are limited to eligible services (homes, lake homes, shops, barns, commercial buildings, etc) that purchase more than 6,000 kilowatt-hours of electricity from the cooperative on an annual basis.

Eligible Heat Pump Equipment

Equipment must be installed by a certified dealer and meet the ENERGY STAR +2 SEER rating of 17. Heat pumps that receive rebates may be subject to cooperative load control programs. The participant agrees to allow the cooperative to control their heating and cooling equipment now or in the future.

Rebates are limited to a maximum of 50 tons commercial and 10 tons residential per facility. Space Heating: The heat pump may be used to replace existing heat pumps, electric resistance or fossil fuel equipment in the home.

Rebate Details

Attach additional sheets for multiple units. The application must include all the information requested on the front of this application. Recipients of rebates may be requested to participate in a future survey by phone or e-mail. INCOMPLETE APPLICATIONS WILL NOT BE PROCESSED AND WILL BE RETURNED TO THE MEMBER. Basement Crawl Space Slab Insulation 

Will refund 50 percent (50%) (Up to $500) of the cost of the insulation when done in conjunction with the installation of a ground source heat pump. This is for insulation improvements only. HVAC equipment and appliances are NOT ELIGIBLE for this rebate. Rebates are limited to eligible services (homes, lake homes, shops, barns, etc) that purchase more than 6,000 kilowatt-hours of electricity from the cooperative on an annual basis.

Eligible Members

Must be a member in good standing with the cooperative (all classes of members are included).  Available to cooperative members who are also installing a new ground source heat pump in their home or business: New construction - homes and buildings, Replacement of electric resistance heat, Replacement of an existing dual-fuel heat pump.

Rebate Requirements

Member must fill in all information requested on the application form including the installation address, mailing address and their cooperative account number.

Member must sign the application and submit it to the cooperative along with an original dated sales receipt. Rebate request should be submitted within 90 days of purchase. A separate application must be completed for each installation site with a limit of one (1) rebate per meter. Attach additional sheets for multiple units. Cooperative must verify account number, name and address of member6.

Cooperative must verify a qualified ground source heat pump system has been purchased and installed. Rebate program is limited to cooperative services that purchase 6,000 or more kilowatt-hours from the cooperative on an annual basis. Eligible services include lake homes, workshops, and barns, etc. Insulation should comply with the current Department of Energy R-Value recommendations. For basement/crawlspace walls in Zone 3 insulation must be an R-10. Concrete slab floors should have a minimum of a 1” inch-thick waterproof insulation board between the entire outside edge of the slab and foundation. This insulation board should be placed around the entire foundation and extend in from the perimeter a minimum of 24 inches horizontally under the slab. For best results, insulate the entire floor under the slab. Basement floors less than 2 feet below ground level should be treated as a slab floor. Installation of basement insulation should comply with good building practices, including the installation of any necessary vapor barriers to prevent moisture or mold issues. Dual Fuel Heat Pumps                                            

Rebate amount is $150 per ton

The structure in which the member resides must be a permanent structure on a permanent foundation on the land owned by the member. Rebates are limited to eligible services (homes, lake homes, shops, barns, etc) that purchase more than 6,000 kilowatt-hours of electricity from the cooperative on an annual basis.

Eligible Heat Pump Equipment

Equipment must be installed by a certified dealer and meet the ENERGY STAR +2 SEER rating of 17. Dual fuel heat pumps MUST use a fossil fuel for back-up heating requirements - wood burning systems and electric resistance units are NOT eligible for a rebate. Heat pumps that receive rebates may be subject to cooperative load control programs. The participant agrees to allow the cooperative to control their heating and cooling equipment now or in the future. Rebates are limited to a maximum of 50 tons commercial and 10 tons residential per facility. Space Heating: The heat pump may be used to replace existing heat pumps, electric resistance or fossil fuel equipment in the home.

Ground Source Heat Pumps                                               

Rebate amount is $750 per ton

Eligible Members

Residential and commercial members in good standing with the cooperative are eligible for rebates when buying qualifying ground source (geothermal) heat pumps. The structure in which the member resides must be a permanent structure on a permanent foundation on the land owned by the member.

Rebates are limited to eligible services (homes, lake homes, shops, barns, commercial buildings, etc) that purchase more than 6,000 kilowatt-hours of electricity from the cooperative on an annual basis.

Eligible Heat Pump Equipment

Equipment must be installed by a certified dealer and meet the criteria below. Electric back-up heat MUST be separated from the ground source unit with a separate breaker. Ground source systems must be installed with specific Delta-T calculations supported by a Manual J “Residential Load Calculation” published by the Air Conditioning Contractors of America as follows: North of the Missouri River = 80; South of the Missouri River = 70. Ask your HVAC contractor to verify that these requirements are met. The cooperative may inspect the facility to determine if R-38 insulation is present in the ceiling and R-13 in the walls. Heat pumps that receive rebates may be subject to cooperative load control programs. The participant agrees to allow the cooperative to control their heating and cooling equipment now or in the future. Rebates are limited to a maximum of 50 tons commercial and 10 tons residential per facility. DX (direct expansion) ground source heat pump installations are not eligible for rebates. Space Heating: The heat pump may be used to replace existing heat pumps, electric resistance or fossil fuel equipment in the facility.

Heat Pump Water Heaters                             

Rebate amount is limited to 50 percent (50%) up to $500

Eligible Members

Must be a member in good standing with the cooperative. The appliance must be ENERGY STAR® rated. If the new unit replaces an old unit, the efficiency rating of the OLD unit must be less than 0.9. Tankless water heaters are NOT eligible for this program. Gas water heaters are NOT eligible for this program. Replacing a gas water heater with a heat pump water heater is eligible for this program. Heat pumps that receive rebates may be subject to cooperative load control programs. The participant agrees to allow the cooperative to control their heating and cooling equipment now or in the future. Limit of up to two (2) per meter.  Rebates are available for existing and new homes. Rebate applies only to 40 gallon or larger heat pump water heaters. The rebate amount is limited to 50 percent (50%) of the total cost of the unit

High Efficiency Motors

Rebate amount is based on HP but may not exceed 50% of equipment cost

Eligible Members

Must be a member in good standing with the cooperative. The rebate is designed for new and existing commercial businesses. All new motors must meet NEMA Premium standards. All old motors must be properly disposed of. The rebate amount is limited to 50 percent (50%) of the total cost of the unit.

Home Energy Audit

Rebate amount is limited to 50 percent (50%) of the total cost of the unit 

Eligible Members

The audit report identifies opportunities to improve the performance of your home based on the analysis. The home energy program may also provide for incentives for up to 50 percent of the costs of qualifying measures with a maximum of $500 allowed for installing the audit recommendations. After the audit, be sure to ask for a weatherization rebate application. You must be a member in good standing with the cooperative to receive an audit. Include your account number and sign the form. Audits are available for new or existing homes. A cooperative representative will contact you for scheduling your audit. The energy audit process can encompass several hours gathering data. Allow at least two (2) hours for the energy audit at your home

Home Energy Audit Weatherization

Will refund 50 percent (50%) (Up to $500) of the cost of the repairs/improvements by the auditors report. Please list each repair made and the amount paid. This form is for weatherization repairs/improvements only and members must have a current energy audit completed through their cooperative. HVAC equipment and appliances are NOT ELIGIBLE for this rebate. Rebates are limited to eligible services (homes, lake homes, shops, barns, etc) that purchase more than 6,000 kilowatt-hours of electricity from the cooperative on an annual basis.

Eligible Members

Must be a member in good standing with the cooperative. Audits are available for new or existing homes. On new homes, it is recommended that the audit take place after the home is sealed and before sheet rock and insulation have been installed. A separate audit form must be completed for each installation site. Must comply with the Home Audit Measure Procedures outlined below. Multiple occupancy (apartments, duplexes, dormitories) buildings are eligible for a weatherization rebate on a single structure basis, (not a single unit basis). One cost-shared audit on a single unit can be paid to the co-op to determine base-line energy use. The building owner is eligible for the weatherization rebate (up to $500).

REBATE DETAILS

Member/auditor must fill in all information requested on the AECI Residential Energy Audit 5-page form located at the Take Control & Save area of AECI’s Member’s web site. Member/auditor must submit the form to local cooperative. Cooperative must verify account number, name and address of member. Rebate program is limited to cooperative services that purchase 6,000 or more kilowatt-hours from the cooperative on an annual basis. Eligible services include lake homes, workshops, and barns, etc. The rebate amount is limited to 50 percent (50%) of the total cost of the unit.

Mini-Split Heat Pump

Programmable Timer for Engine Block Heater

Rebate amount is limited to 50 percent (50%) up to $15

Eligible Members

Must be a member in good standing of the cooperative. Must be a programmable timer. Be sure the timer is: 1. Heavy duty and designed for outdoors 2.

Cold weather resistant 3. Rated for a minimum of 15 amps or 1,800 watts capacity. The rebate amount is limited to 50 percent (50%) of the total cost of the unit.

Smart Thermostat

Rebate amount is limited to 50 percent (50%) up to $50

Eligible Members

Must be a member in good standing with the cooperative. The thermostat must be ENERGY STAR® rated. Rebates may be subject to cooperative load control programs. The participant agrees to allow the cooperative to control their heating and cooling equipment now or in the future. Limit of up to two (2) per member address/location. Rebates are available for existing and new homes. The rebate amount is limited to 50 percent (50%) of the total cost of the unit

Variable Frequency Drives for H.V.A.C. Pumps/Fans

Rebate amount is $50 per Brake Horsepower (BHP) or motor driven by VFD

Eligible Members

Must be a business member in good standing with the cooperative. The rebate is designed for new and existing commercial businesses. VFD must be controlled. This rebate is NOT for the replacement of existing VFDs. Applications include: hot water pump, chilled water pump, HVAC fan. Types of VFD HVAC fans include: constant volume, air foil/backward inlet, air foil inlet guide vanes, forward curves, forward curved inlet guide vanes. Types of VFD HVAC pumps include: hot water pump, chilled water pump. The rebate amount is limited to 50 percent (50%) of the total cost of the unit. The rebate dollar limit is $50 per brake horsepower

Water Heater

Rebate amount is limited to 50 percent (50%) up to $50

Eligible Members

Must be a member in good standing with the cooperative. The energy efficiency rating of the new unit must meet Department of Energy (DOE) standards at the time of manufacture. If the new unit replaces an old unit, the efficiency rating of the old electric unit must be less than 0.9. Tankless water heaters are NOT eligible for this program. Gas water heaters are NOT eligible for this program. Limit of up to two (2) per meter. Rebates are available for existing and new homes. Rebate applies only to 40 gallon or larger electric water heating units. Replacing a gas water heater with an electric water heater is eligible for a rebate. The rebate amount is limited to 50 percent (50%) of the total cost of the unit. Water heaters that receive rebates may be subject to cooperative load control programs. The participant agrees to allow the cooperative to control their heating and cooling equipment now or in the future. 

Window Air Conditioning

Rebate amount is limited to 50 percent (50%) up to $50

Eligible Members

Must be a member in good standing with the cooperative. Cooperative must verify an ENERGY STAR® rated room air conditioning unit is purchased. Limit of one (1) rebate per meter. The rebate will apply for the purchase of one new ENERGY STAR® rated unit or for the replacement of an existing unit. Rebates are available for existing and new homes. The rebate amount is limited to 50 percent (50%) of the total cost of the unit

Business Lighting - Please Contact the Office for Application Information

Eligible Members

Available to commercial, industrial and agricultural cooperative business members. Only members with 10 or more fixtures at their installation site will qualify. The rebate amount will be determined prior to installation and calculated based on an audit of existing and replacement lighting. The total rebate amount is limited to $30,000 per member per year. Rebates may be taxable, so please consult your tax advisor. If your rebate amount is more than $600, it will be reported as income on IRS Form 1099, unless you have identified yourself as a corporation or have tax-exempt status. AHEC is not responsible for any taxes that may be imposed on you as a result of the rebate.
